It is the mission of this website to place the concept of Multi-payor Universal Healthcare Systems into the political dialogue of the United States healthcare debate.
The book Chronic Crisis: Critical Care for America's Collapsing Healthcare System was written specifically for this purpose. ***
Many Americans are frustrated with the U.S. healthcare system, and justifiably so.
Millions of citizens have no healthcare coverage.
The number and percent of bankruptcies related to healthcare costs continue to increase.
An estimated 18,000 American citizens die annually because they lack access to existing healthcare infrastructure and manpower.
It is no secret. Americans know their healthcare system is broken.
While many Americans want change, the only alternative that is widely discussed is a Single-payor healthcare system similar to the systems in Canada or Britain. Few Americans understand there are alternatives.
From a global perspective the most common alternative to a single-payor system is a Multi-payor Universal Healthcare System (MUHS).
Few people, however, understand exactly what a MUHS really is.
This is understandable. No two MUHS are exactly alike. And most of the countries with MUHS speak languages other than English.
There are two major advantages to MUHS.
- First, MUHS provide UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE at an average per capita cost that is approximately half the per capita healthcare cost in the United States.
- Second, MUHS have notably shorter “waiting times” for elective medical procedures relative to Single-payor healthcare systems.
The policies common to these systems are simple; the principles are basic.
These principles are the topic of this website and of the book Chronic Crisis: Critical Care for America's Collapsing Healthcare System.
